Ex- Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James the former director has denied the charges to giving untrue testimony to lawmakers and obstructing a lawmaking procedure.

His attorney submitted the response on his behalf in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday morning.

His attorney declared he would attempt to have the legal matter thrown out for several causes including that his client, a opponent of Donald Trump, was being targeted.

The former director was formally accused soon after the former president pushed his chief prosecutor to proceed against him.

Legal Proceedings

In court on Wednesday, Comey's lawyer the legal representative told the judge they intended to submit multiple motions to terminate the legal matter before a trial, arguing the government's case was retaliatory and that a US attorney was unlawfully assigned to handle the case.

Mr Comey's case was originally managed by the original attorney, who stepped down under scrutiny from the former president after his examination into an additional rival - the New York official - did not succeed to bring criminal charges.

Courtroom Atmosphere

Mr Comey came across in optimistic frame of mind as he entered the legal venue on mid-week, speaking with his lawyers and being lighthearted. He was supported by his partner, Patrice Failor and daughter Maureen, a federal prosecutor who the previous administration dismissed.

Following the reading to the magistrate recite his constitutional guarantees and the two counts against him in court on Wednesday, Mr Comey was inquired if he grasped the charges.

"I do your honour. Thank you," he informed the judge.

Previous Events

Mr Comey was the head of the FBI from 2013-2017 and was fired about several months into the former president's first administration as president. At the period, the director was overseeing an examination into Russian election interference and whether there were any relationships between the Russian government and Trump's campaign.

Throughout his leadership, Mr Comey caused a counter-response from Democrats when he stated just shortly prior to the 2016 presidential election that he was investigating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server. Legal actions against Hillary Clinton were never brought, resulting in disapproval from the Republican party as well.

Current Allegations

The federal government assert Mr Comey gave untrue statements to the legislature during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being interrogated about both the email probe as well as the foreign influence inquiry. They say he misled the legislative body by saying he had not permitted a person at the FBI to leak to journalistic entities information about the government examinations.

Government lawyers also charge Mr Comey of "wrongfully trying to sway, block and slow" the panel by giving misleading testimony to it.

Individual Responses

Via social media Mr Comey posted to his social media after he was accused, he stated he was wrongly accused and accused the former president of behaving like a "dictator".

"We have understood for considerable time that there are consequences to standing up to Donald Trump," he stated. "We choose not to live on our bended knee."

"I am not guilty," he added. "Therefore proceed with a trial."

The charges against the former director came after Donald Trump shared on online platforms calling for his top legal official, Ms Bondi, take legal action against the former director and others.
